IMA comes out with food policy document

Noting that scant attention is being paid to food safety in general and child nutrition in particular, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for reversing this alarming situation and suggested that good quality and affordability are the key requirements to an ideal food culture. The IMA, Kerala Chapter made the observation in its Food Policy Document 2015 that will be released by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Health Minister V S Sivakumar on World Health Day, which falls on Tuesday.

The IMA has come out with a food policy document with the theme of World Health Day 2015 being 'food safety'. In its in its guidelines on Safe and Healthy Food, the IMA said that every one including the authorities, organisations and citizens have to be aware about safe and healthy food and that it should never be a reason for disease.


The IMA under 27 different heads has highlighted the importance of taking a wholesome food that provide adequate calories and nutrients. It stresses that good quality and affordability are the key requirements to an ideal food culture.

Eating Diabetes Away

Diabetes is a life long disease and proper care is needed all through one's life to control it. The best way to control diabetes is to control the blood sugar level by maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Proper exercise and maintaining a healthy body goes a long way in controlling diabetes.
A healthy eating is needed to maintain the body weight and also in controlling the blood sugar level. If diabetic, one should have to watch out what he is eating. One should have to keep a balance of the carbohydrates, proteins and fats in his food to keep the blood sugar under control.
Eating sensibly is critical in diabetes. One should have to keep in mind to be consistent in their meals. Eat regularly at the right time and maintain a consistent quantity of what you take. Do not also let the sugar level fall low by not eating or too high by eating often.
A healthy diabetic diet should be low in fats, sugar, and carbohydrates and should contain more vitamins. Vegetables, whole grains, beans, fruits, non-fat dairy products, lean meats, fish and poultry should be included in diabetic diets. Add more fibres in the menu as they help to slow down the digestion and regulate the flow of glucose into the blood stream. Sugar is a villain in diabetes and it is better to avoid soft drinks and other sweet food products that are sweet.
Well, one should also decrease the consumption of alcohol, avoid fried and creamed foods, which all contain lots of fats. Oil, cheese and butter should be taken out of the diabetic diet.
It is better to have a diabetic health plan. The diabetic health plan helps you in choosing the right kind of food to be eaten at meals and at snack times.
Practising a proper diet plan can control diabetes. A proper diabetic diet plays a key roe in maintaining the health of a diabetic person.
