UNAIDS Report on HIV/AIDS

• An estimated 33.3 million people worldwide had the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) There were 26.2 million in 1999.
• A estimated 1.8 million AIDS-related deaths around the world in 2009.
• One in four AIDS deaths is caused by tuberculosis.
• In 2009, there were 2.6 million new HIV infections, down from 3.1 million in 1999.
