A person attacked by a shark has been left with 300 stitches. Clayton Schultz was surfing at Jacksonville Beach in North Florida, when a shark attacked him.
He was rushed to hospital where doctors has to give 300 stitches to close the huge cut in his foot.
He said the shark came up and grabbed his foot and shook it around a little and let go. He said he could see that his foot was torn up when he lifted his foot out of the water.

Patriarch of Indian communism Basu no more
Jyoti Basu, patriarch of Indian communism and an icon of Indian Parliamentary communists, has passed away.
Regarded as the country’s most elderly statesman, He breathed his last at 1147 hours at a city hospital, ending a 17-day battle for life and an era in the country`s political history.
He was 95.
Basu was admitted to the hospital on January 1. Basu's condition worsened day by day. He reached the stage of multiple-organ failure and was on life support.
As Basu`s condition worsened, leaders from various walks of life, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee and Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan visited him… read more here… www.keralz.com

About Elly, Fishing Platform bag Golden Crow Pheasant
“About Elly” and “Fishing Platform” shared the `Swarna Chakoram` (Golden Crow Pheasant), the top prize of the 14th International Film Festival of Kerala.
“True Noon” director Nosir Saidov bagged the `Rajata Chakoram` (Silver Crow Pheasant) award for the best director. The film also bagged the audience award. Madoda Ncayiyana’s “My Secret Sky” received the Rajata Chakoram for the best debut director.
The Federation of International Film Critics (FIPRESCI) prize was won by Gabriela David’s “A Fly in Ashes”. The FIPRESCI Award for the Best Malayalam Cinema went to Joshy Mathew's Pathaam Nilayile Theevandi (Train in the Tenth Floor). Read more… http://www.keralz.com

Sufiya Madhani arrested
Sufiya Madhani, wife of PDP leader Abdul Nazar Madhani, was arrested after the Kerala High Court denied her anticipatory bail in the Kalamassery bus burning case.
The Kerala High Court rejected the bail on the grounds that custodial interrogation was necessary in the case.

IFFK to showcase around 200 films
The 14th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK 2009), beginning here on December 11, will see around 200 films from around the world and the country.
Veteran filmmaker Mrinal Sen will inaugurate the Fest here, where erstwhile actress Sharmila Tagore and French Ambassador to India Jerome Bonnafont are the chief guests.
Turkish director Atil Inac’s “A step into the darkness” is the inaugural film.
Mrinal Sen will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award on the occasion. Oscar winning sound editor and designer Resul Pookutty will also be honoured.
The competition section will showcase 14 films. The India Cinema Now and Malayalam Cinema Today will have seven films each and the World Cinema section has 52 entries..... Read more at www.keralz.com

Cong registers thumping victory in Kerala
The Congress led United Democratic Front has retained all the three assembly constituencies defeating their arch rivals CPI (M)-led Left Democratic Front with a huge margin, the results for which were announced on November 10.
Two times MP from Kannur A P Abdullakutty, who had joined the Congress after his long stint with the Marxists, won the Kannur Assembly on a Congress ticket with a huge margin of 12,043 votes. CPI (M) candidate M V Jayarajan got 41,944 votes.
Former Minister Dominic Presentation of the Congress won the Ernakulam constituency, defeating his CPI (M) rival P N Seenulal for a margin of 8,620 votes. Congress candidate A A Shukoor defeated Mr G Krishnaprasad of the CPI in Alappuzha. Shukoor won the constituency with a margin of 4,745 votes.
The BJP could not fare well in the three assembly segments. BJP candidate in Kannur, Renjith, could only poll 5,665 Votes. In Alappuzha, K Babu got only 2,247 votes and Sobha Surendran in Ernakulam bagged only 7,208 Votes. .. Read more at www.keralz.com

Heavy polling in Kerala
Heavy polling was recorded in Kannur, Ernakulam and Alappuzha assembly constituencies, which went to by polls on Saturday and it is estimated that 66 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise.
Kannur recorded the highest polling percentage of about 73 per cent. About 65 per cent of the voters in Alappuzha exercised their franchise. In Ernakulam, it is estimated that about 61.4 per cent of the people voted.
No untoward incident was reported from anywhere and the Central Police forces had been deployed at all the polling booths to ensure free and fair elections.
Meanwhile the voters of Makaparambu in Ernakulam constituency boycotted the poll in protest against the apathy of the elected representatives in solving their long-pending problems. At Mulavukkadu, some voters had exercised their franchise but majority of them refrained from casting their votes. ..For more news log on to www.keralz.com
