Splash through the green backwaters of Kerala

Innumerable Lagoons, canals, lakes, estuaries and forty-four rivers flowing through the length and breadth of the land make Kerala an ideal spot for backwater tourism. Kerala, the “Gods own country”, has the most enchanting backwaters. Nature is at its best in Kerala. Watch the beauty of the sunset, waxing moonlight, dancing palms and hear the songs of the waves while splashing through the green waters.

The placid backwaters, which stretches for about 1500 Kilometres, lined with coconut trees all along the shore is a unique experience in a lifetime। Cruising along the backwaters, one can have a picturesque view of the beauty of this God’s own country.

Well, the most fascinating drive in the backwaters is in a luxurious Kettuvallom (Houseboats). Kettuvalloms were used as grain barges to transport rice. Converted to accommodate tourists, the houseboats have all luxury from bedrooms with toilets, dining areas and sit outs. You can also have mouth-watering dishes, which are prepared in the boat itself.

Alappuzha is a place well known for backwater cruises. More than a backwater cruise, one can enjoy the beautiful snake boat races and also the diverse birds that flock the lagoons and rivers. Cochi also offers some of the best backwater. One cannot miss the cruises to the coconut plantations and the coir villages. Ashtamdudi Lake, which is know as the gate way to the backwaters of Kerala, offers a splendid and enchanting trip. One should not miss the tour from Kollam to Alapuzha, which is the longest cruise. Thiruvananthapuram, Thiruvallam, Kumarakom are some of the other places where one can have a glorious backwater cruise.

Travelling in a House Boat in the green backwaters of Kerala is a delightful experience; an experience that can be cherished for long।
